Hyderabad: A 20-year-old man allegedly raped his cousin, who is mentaly unwell, at Ibrahimpatnam.

Police has booked a case against the accused, S. Gyaneshwar, a security guard, for rape and criminal intimidation, after the victim’s mother approached the police.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, when the 22-year-old victim and the accused were alone in the house.

Gyaneshwar is absconding and cops have started a manhunt.

Chennai: A thirtyfive-year-old woman rowdy was hacked on Tuesday morning in full public view near Choolaimedu by unidentified men who came in an autorickshaw.

A gang war between two women gangsters, which had already resulted in the murder of their husbands, has escalated into this attempt to murder in broad daylight, police sources said.

Around 12.30 pm, Stella, a resident of Periyar Pathai area, in Choolaimedu, was walking near the 100 feet road in Arumbakkam when four unidentified men came in an autorickshaw and surrounded her.

They also started attacking her, the sources said.

The gang immediately fled the place, leaving the woman in a pool of blood.

The Choolaimedu police reached the spot and admitted the woman to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, another woman gangster, Kan­nagi, surrendered at the Pulianthope police station, claiming responsibility for the attempt on Stella’s life.

According to police officials, the two of them had enmity over business deals when they were both residing in the Pulianthope area.

There are several cases registered against both women in the area and, rece­ntly, they had a squ­a­bble over business deals in their lorry renting bus­iness.

Kannagi had murdered Stella’s husband after which Stella had hi­red henchmen and murdered Kannagi’s husband. Stella had since m­o­­ved to Choolaimedu and was living there.

Tue­sd­ay’s att­ack on Stella was an att­e­mpt at venge­ance for the murder of Kan­nagi’s husband, the police said.

A special team has been sent to nab Kannagi’s relatives, who are suspected to be behind the assault on Tuesday.

Cops nab six who beat man to death

Hyderabad: A week after a youngster was beaten to death by a gang in full public view at Mir Alam Mandi, the police arrested six people, including a juvenile boy, in connection with the murder.

According to the cops, the accused had attacked Mohd. Nadeem, as he had asked them not to play cricket on the street since it disturbed his business. The victim had died on the spot after he sustained multiple injuries in the attack.

The arrested men are Mohd. Dawood Khan alias Sohail, Syed Ayazuddin, a rowdy sheeter of Rein Bazaar Police Station, Mohd Azhar Khan, Mohd Aleem, Tareeq Ahmed and a juvenile. Mirchowk police said that the assaulters had conspired to attack the victim and collected weapons like daggers and billiard sticks on January 21. They attacked Nadeem at his shop.

The victim’s assistant was also injured when he tried to stop the attackers.

Police raided the Kabir Snooker Parlour at Bibi Bazaar and arrested the accused. Cops have booked cases against the assaulters under Section 302 (for murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 147( rioting).

Khammam: The negligence of a private bus driver almost cost 45 pilgrims their lives.

They were on their way to enjoy Papikondalu cruise on Godavari river, 190 km from Khammam, on Tuesday.

It was a miraculous escape for the pilgrims from Kolar in Karnataka when the bus carrying them rammed into the hillside while negotiating a curve near Pochavaram village under V.R. Puram mandal.

Almost 22 persons sustained injuries, four of them critically, in the mishap.

It is learnt that the bus, belonging to Ebenezer Travels, was speeding through the empty forest road .

Just a little distance away from the boating point at Pochavaram, the driver lost control of the vehicle when he tried to swerve and ended up ramming into the hillside. It would have turned into a bigger mishap had the bus crashed into the deep gorge.

The injured were rushed to a nearby primary health centre at Rakhapalli village. Naveen, a cook, lost his left hand.

He, along with Raju, Muralidhar and Srinivas, who sustained severe injuries were admitted to Area Hospital in Bhadrachalam.

“Despite being aware that the brakes of the bus were not working properly for the last two days, the driver had continued the journey,” pilgrims alleged.

Chennai: With the seizure of 11 kg gold, worth Rs 3.3 crore concealed inside mobile phon­es from the cargo section on Monday night, the directorate of revenue intelligence and customs have together seized 37 kg of gold, worth over Rs 11 crore at the Chennai airport in three days since Saturday.

While DRI accounted for 35 kg seizure, the customs had seized 2 kg gold. In the latest seizure on Monday night, DRI officials found that a parcel declared as mobile phone instruments had actually gold biscuit fitted in the place of battery of the cell phone.

“There were 110 mobile phones in the parcel. Every phone had 100 gm of gold biscuit in place of the battery,” DRI sources said. The parcel had come from Hong Kong and was addressed to a person in Royapuram. Enquiries revealed that the address was fake.

Earlier, on Monday, DRI men seized 16 kg of gold, worth over Rs 5.3 crore, from four parcels that arrived from Singapore and were declared as mobile phone consignment, at the airport cargo section while customs officials seized 2 kg gold. Only on Saturday, DRI had seized 8 kg of gold stuffed in cushions of seats in the Air India aircraft that arrived from Singapore.

Bangalore: Depressed that his wife left him for another man, a 42-year-old painter took his own life at his residence in Ulsoor police limits early on Tues­day. The deceased has been identified as Shan­mug­an Mun­iswa­my, a painter by profession.

Police said his wife, Sho­bha, had reportedly deserted him for with another man about eight months ago.

On Monday evening, Shobha allegedly called up and told Shanmugam that she wanted to return.

However, the latter is said to have refused, and threatened to end his life if she came back.

Despite his opposition, Shan­m­ugam’s father is said to have left home on Monday night to bring Shobha back in an attempt to patch things up between the couple.

How­ever, around 5 am on Tue­sday, Shanmugam, who was sleeping with his children in the room, hung himself from the ceiling fan using a rope.

The incident came to light around 9 am when his mother went to wake up Shanm­ugam. The police were informed but no suicide note was found.

Couple survives suicide bid, but baby dies

Bangalore: A couple attempted suicide at their residence in Kamakshipalya by consuming poison, after killing their eight-month-old baby girl. They had lost their first daughter due to illness a few days ago. The couple was reportedly unable to cope with the loss and took the extreme step.

The Kamakshipalya pol­ice have registered a case of murder against the couple for killing their younger daughter and for attempting suic­ide.

Siddalingaswamy (35) and his wife Manjula (30), residents of Kaveri­nagar in Kamak­ship­alya, had attempted suicide by consuming poison after killing their eight-month-old daughter Harshini by feeding her poison.

The incident came to light on Monday night around 8 pm, when Venk­atesh, their neighbour, sensed foul smell emanating from the couple’s residence. He also found that the family had bolted the doors from inside, the police said.

Venkatesh telephoned the building owner Shilpashri, residing at Cholurupalya on the Magadi Road.

The house door was broken open and the couple was found lying unconscious, while their daughter’s decomposed body was lying on the bed. The jurisdictional police, who were inform­ed about the incident, shifted the couple to a nearby multi-speciality hospital and the baby’s body was sent for post-mortem.

The couple’s eldest daughter four-year-old Hamsini had died of illness on January 6, this year. The couple was upset and even used to fight blaming each other for the tragedy.

It is suspected that their elder daughter’s death could be the reason for their suicide attempt, the police said.

The couple hailed from Mysore. Sidda­lingasw­amy was an autorickshaw driver while his wife was working as a house maid.

Interstate thief held, 30 autos recovered

Bangalore: A 35-year-old notorious habitual offender, who was part of an interstate gang of thieves, has be­en arrested by the Cen­tral Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths and recovered stolen food items, cigarettes, auto rickshaws, steel pipes and other valuables worth around Rs 1.02 crore.

The CCB sleuths have identified the accused as Manik Chand alias Ka­mal Seth in Peenya.

They have recovered 30 autor­ickshaws, which be­l­o­nged to TVS Co­mp­any at Hosur in Tamil Nadu. The accused, alo­ng with his associates Ba­­bu, Shi­van, Kumar, Sur­­esh, Kashi alias Set alias Selambarasan, all nati­ves of Chennai, had stol­en the autoricksha­ws while it was being exported to Tanzania. The cost of the vehicles is Rs 30 lakh, the police said.

They had also stolen 16 tonnes of steel pipes, which belonged to Jin­dal Steel, the sleuths said.

Shantilal and Lali­th, the other two Che­nnai-based accused provided information abo­ut the containers tr­an­spo­rting ma­terials throughout the cou­ntry. They would gather information at por­ts, god­owns of multi-national companies and other places.

Manik Chand used to get in touch with the drivers and cleaners of the containers and lure them with money. After providing them advance, the accused used to divert the containers towards city and steal them.

The stolen goods were kept at a godown in Peenya, which Manik had taken on rent, the CCB sleuths said.
