No pressure on us: Vijay Zol

Bengaluru: As skipper, Vijay Zol is on a high, after India’s triumph in the U-19 Asia Cup in Sharjah earlier this month and as a middle-order batsman the Maharashtra youngster has been on a roll, with his willow talking big.

The 19-year-old, who scored an unbeaten 91 against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals to help his team enter the semis, will miss the final against Karnataka in Hyderabad next week owing to the preparatory camp for the U-19 World Cup starting next month. The team assembled for the camp at the NCA here on Wednesday.

Excerpts:

Being back at Dubai: We have done well in the Asia Cup in Dubai and the WC is at the same venue. We have a good feel about the conditions there and it is good that we won the Asia Cup there and we are preparing well.

On the team: We know the strength and short-comings of each other and as a captain I know how I can take the best out of every player.

On the competition: There are good teams and it is not about them (rival teams), we tend not to think about that, it is all about us, about how we perform well every time we go out there.

On being the defending champion and coping with pressure: Of course, there are expectations and we have been really doing well in the past tournaments but that does not put any kind of pressure on us, we are enjoying it. We are the defending champions and that is a great feeling for us so there is no kind of pressure on us and we are enjoying it.
