Girl goes out with boyfriend, cooks up rape story to escape family wrath

Indore: A 15-year-old girl concocted story about her abduction and rape to escape her family's wrath for having gone out with her boyfriend, police said on Friday.

The schoolgirl told the police she was abducted and raped by a van driver and his two associates on January 14. Based on her complaint, police filed a case against three unidentified persons.

During investigation, police found contradictions in her story. Her medical examination also negated the rape theory.

On questioning, the Class X student admitted she had cooked up the story of her abduction and rape to escape the fury of her family members, who were angry with her for having gone out with her boyfriend, Dharamendra Parihar (24). Parihar has been arrested on kidnapping charges since the girl is a minor, police added.

Woman who smothered kids to death booked for murder

Akola (Maharashtra): A woman, who allegedly smothered her two children to death and then attempted suicide by hanging herself at their home in Akola city, was on Friday booked for murder police said.

28-year-old Swati Jain has been booked under sections 302 (murder) and 309 (Attempt to commit suicide) of IPC, they said.

According to police she smothered to death her two children - Tanwi (6) and Tanish (3) - with a pillow at their home in Shastri Nagar area on the night of January 15. She then inflicted several injuries on herself suspectedly with a sharp blade and later attempted suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. However, as she could not tie the noose properly, she fell down.

When Swati's husband Ashok Jain (35), who works with a private company here, returned home and did not get any response on ringing the door bell, he broke it open and found his wife lying in a pool of blood.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is battling for life, while the bodies of the children have been sent for autopsy. Though the exact reason behind the incident was yet to be ascertained, sources said the couple had a quarrel on January 14.

Coimbatore: A 25-year-old man was on Friday arrested on charges of allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a girl near Anamalai in the district, police said. The teenaged girl, a mill worker, had spurned Harishankar, a driver, and irked over this, he reportedly kidnapped her and sexually assaulted her last evening, police said.

Harishankar, who absconded, was arrested today, police said.

Thane: A 24-year-old police constable whose love affair failed, ended his life by burning himself alive, the police said here on Friday.

Assistant police inspector S.B. Kothmire of the Kalwa police station told PTI that the constable Tippu Sultan Balekhan Mullah attached to the Thane police commissionerate headquarters was a resident of Kalwa. He is survived by his widowed mother and three sisters in Kalwa's Manisha Nagar locality.

On Wednesday night, he doused himself with petrol near Janki Nagar at Kalwa and set himself on fire, reportedly in a bid to scare the girl, but it boomranged onm him.

He was admitted in a badly burnt condition to a hospital in Navi Mumbai where he died today afternoon, the Kalwa police said. An offence has been registered under Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code against the constable. Further investigations are on, the police said.

Gold bars worth Rs 50 lakh seized at Chennai airport

Chennai: Gold bars, weighing 1.5 kg and valued at Rs 50 lakh, were on Friday seized from two passengers who arrived here from Bahrain, airport sources said.

Customs officials questioned them after they became suspicious of their movement and seized the gold bars that was kept in their baggage, they said. They were arrested and investigations are on, they said.

In the last two weeks, officials have seized about eight kg of gold valued at Rs three crore, they added.

Self-styled godman cheats woman of Rs 5L in a month

Adilabad: A case has been registered against a self-styled baba who collected Rs 5 lakh in one month from a gullible woman, Madasu Mounika, of Narsingapur village in Mancherial mandal to cure her family members from various ailments brought on supposedly by witchcraft.

The victim had never met the baba, but had only spoken to him over phone and had deposited money in his bank accounts.

Mirja Baba, who claimed to be from Rajasthan, asked the woman to deposit money in bank accounts in UP following which he would perform special pujas.

The issue came to light when the Hazipur police registered a case against the baba following a complaint lodged by Mounika. The baba kept his whereabouts secret till his operation was over. Hazipur assistant SI Habib said that they were investigating the case.

Police said that Mirja Baba made Mounika believe that he was performing pujas for curing her family members. He never revealed his whereabouts saying that his pujas would lose their curing powers if he revealed where he was performing them.

Mounika had initially contacted the baba on a phone number she found on a pamphlet that was pasted in an RTC bus.

When she called first and narrated her woes, the baba asked her to deposit Rs 3,160 in an SBI bank account to perform pujas. She deposited the amount on October 31 last year.

In the last one month, Mounika deposited nearly Rs 5 lakh in different UP bank accounts for the baba to perform pujas. She started doubting the baba’s powers as the health of her family members did not improve.

She said that suddenly she could not get through to the baba and suspecting that she had been cheated, she finally approached the local police.

Man accused of killing his wife admits to murder

Hyderabad: A murderer, who was on the run for the past few days, has finally been arrested by city police.

Srinivas, 35, admitted to murdering his wife Meenakshi, 30, about ten days ago at their house in Kukatpally Housing Board Colony.

Police said Srinivas, a peanut vendor, confessed to his crime during interrogation, revealing that he had “hit her on the head with an iron rod,” after suspecting her of infidelity.

He was nabbed at Kukatpally and then taken into custody on Wednesday.

“While interrogation Srinivas admitted that he was suspicious of his wife’s behaviour. Also, there were frequent arguments between the couple on the same issue. On that fateful day, Srinivas came home drunk and they had a fight, following which he hit Meenakshi on head with an iron rod. This resulted in her death,” said A. Gangaram, inspector at the KPHB police station.

It has now been revealed that there were other members of the family present during the attack.

“Other members of the family desperately tried to calm him down but the efforts went in vain. The attack was sudden and the family members went into shock. Srinivas later, fled the spot,” the inspector added.

Charges of murder has been filed against Srinivas.

Hyderabad: Robbers killed a 55-five year old woman, a worker at a Sulabh Complex in Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, and fled with her ornaments late on Wednesday night.

The attackers banged her head against the wall, resulting in her instant death. They then removed her silver anklets and cellphone and fled.

The victim, P. Pentamma, wife of Balaiah, was a native of Andole in Medak district. Pentamma worked as a cleaner at the Sulabh Complex for nearly 15 years and slept in a room in the complex at night.

On Wednesday night, she returned to the complex after dinner. At around 10 pm, the robbers entered the complex and attacked her while she was asleep.

“They first banged her head against the wall and then removed her silver anklets and cellphone and fled the spot,” said S. Prabhakar, inspector at the, S.R. Nagar police station.

Her body was discovered hours later. The police registered a case of murder and has begun investigation. No suspects have been named in the case.

Police sources said that it is suspected that the robbers were known to the victim. Police has detained some suspects in the case, but have not officially confirmed this.

Pentamma’s body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital and a post-mortem was conducted.

Muzaffarnagar: A 20-year-old girl, who went missing three days ago, was found strangulated to death near her house, police said here on Friday.

Ruksana was found murdered in the fields under suspicious conditions near her house at Kulheri village under Charthawal police station Thursday evening, they said. The girl was in love with a youth but her family was opposed to their relationship.

After her disappearance three days ago, the father of the girl had lodged a complaint with the police, Karamvir Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police told reporters here. The body has been sent for postmortem and the police is investigating the case, he said.

In another case, a 26-year-old youth Rozuddin was found murdered with his throat slit at Kaserwa village in the district on Thursday. An accused named Rahisuddinn was arrested, while three others are absconding, police said.

Burglars break into two Hyderabad houses

Hyderabad: Burglars broke into two houses in Andhra Bank Colony, in Ibrahimpatnam, and stole cash and ornaments. Though, they broke into both the houses, they found valuables only in one house which belongs to a trader. Both the families were out of town.

According to B. Narasimha, sub-inspector at Ibrahimpatnam police station, a complaint was lodged by Balreddy, stating that his family had gone their native place at Kandukuru, in Prakasham district, a couple of days ago.

Upon returning on Thursday, they found the lock at the front door broken and the house ransacked. While checking the valuables, they found that about 10 gm of gold, 40 gm of silver ornaments and cash worth rs 10,000 were missing from the house.

Based on his complaint, a case has been registered and is being investigated. The burglars also broke into another house, but found nothing there, the police said.

Madurai: Addicted to alcohol, a po­li­ce­­man committed suicide by consuming poison-laced bra­ndy in Madurai on Thursday. C.Karthikraja (27) attached to the Melur police station suffered from severe stomach ache due to continuous alcohol consumption.

He mixed poison in brandy and consumed the drink. He was admitted to a private hospital where he died. His suicide note stated that he took the extreme step as he was unable to bear the stomach ache.

Over 1,000 held for illegal sale of liquor

Chennai: In a major haul, the Prohibition and Enforcement Wing (PEW) of the State police arrested 1,281 people, including 82 women, for selling liquor bottles illegally following the closure of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) outlets for two days.

All TASMAC outlets and bars in the state were not functioning on Tuesday and Wednesday as a mark of respect for Prophet Mohammad's birth anniversary and Thiruvalluvar Day.

A statewide drive was held by the PEW wing of the state police and 1,279 cases were booked against those found guilty of possessing liquor with the intention to sell it at exorbitant rates, the police said.

According to PEW officials, most of the seized liquor was from the usual areas, smuggled from neighbouring states, for sale during the past two days.

The seizure constituted 390 litres of liquor from Puducherry, 376 litres from Andhra Pradesh, 83 bottles of Kerala arrack and 54 bottles of Goan liquor, PEW sources said.

The seizure also consisted of 41,562 bottles of Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 9,428 bottles of spurious liquor.

Around 90 vehicles us­ed for transporting the liquor bottles were also seized.

According to In­s­pector General of Pol­i­ce, PEW, N. Sesha­sayee, “The arrested people stock liquor bottles and sell them at exorbitant rates, taking advantage of dry days.”

The bottles were sold from parked cars, auto rickshaws and even in water buckets, police sources said. In Chennai too, 20 people were arrested on similar charges.
