AICC sees dislikes for AAP

Senior Congress leaders fear that the AAP experiment could push the country to anarchy.

New Delhi: After extending unconditional support to the AAP in Delhi, the Congress finds that it can’t decide if it is a “like-minded party” or not. Senior AICC leaders fear that the AAP experiment could push the country to anarchy.

They also fear that Arvind Kejriwal’s party is working to further the agenda of international forces to create instability in India.
A CWC member noted how the “pillars of democracy” are getting discredited. “They have made politicians a laughing stock, branded the executive (bureaucracy) as totally corrupt and are discrediting the judiciary and media. Such a situation helps dictatorship to get space,” a leader said.
Divisions within the Congress on the AAP are clear, with younger leaders still in favour of the experiment (of supporting the AAP) as it directly connects the party to the ‘aam aadmi’ while seniors feel “it is too early to come to any conclusion”.
There are also questions about the AAP’s ideology. But with polls nearing, the Congress has little time left to formulate a strategy on how to check the AAP.
The Congress’ stance might get clear after the one-day AICC meeting on Friday, sources say.
