Furore over Jaipal’s jibe

Seemandhra leaders demand apology from Jaipal Reddy for calling leaders of region 'stupids'.

Hyderabad: Seemandhra leaders condemned remarks of Union minister S. Jaipal Reddy and demanded that he tender an apology.

Speaking at a function on Saturday, Jaipal Reddy had said that “some stupids” were “talking nonsense” in the Seemandhra region, which had produced stalwarts and intellectuals like Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, Koka Subba Rao and D. Narasaraju. This comment angered Telug Desam’s Yanamala Ramakrishnudu who demanded that the PM dismiss Jaipal Reddy from the Union Cabinet.
Law minister Erasu Pratap Reddy said that 'stupids' were born in both regions.
Referring to another of Reddy’s remarks, that the “last ball (on bifurcation) will be played at Delhi not at Hyderabad,” Ramakrishnudu said that the last ball may be played in Delhi, but the preparation would be at Hyderabad.
Erasu Reddy said that 'real Telangana men' had never demanded the state’s bifurcation and 'real Seemandhra men' have never demanded a united state.
Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said how Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy will play the last ball will be known in the third phase of the Assembly session.
Congress MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar demanded that Jaipal Reddy withdraw his remarks. He challenged Reddy to an open debate on the state’s division. He said Reddy, who is an “international leader”, was speaking like Telangana Rashtra Samit chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
TD MLAs Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy, Devineni Uma Maheswar Rao and MLC Nannapaneni Rajakumari, along with APNGOs president P. Ashok Babu condemned Jaipal Reddy’s remarks and demanded an apology.
It was left to the BJP’s senior leader and former Union minister, Vidyasagar Rao, to defend Jaipal Reddy. He said the remark should not be misunderstood.
