TV journalist Ashutosh to join AAP; Medha Patkar yet to decide

Ashutosh resigns as managing editor of Hindi channel; Medha Patkar yet to decide.

New Delhi: Senior television journalist Ashutosh is likely to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after he announced his resignation as the managing editor of a Hindi news channel on Thursday.

"I have resigned from IBN7, inclined to join AAP," he said, adding, "I am in touch with them (the party) and they are in touch with me".

"I think, what AAP is doing is very fabulous and will change Indian politics and will have a positive impact on society."

He tweeted, "Yes I have resigned. Eight years back I changed my course, now there is another time, another call of destiny, have to swim - have to swim. Life is beautiful and unpredictability makes it more enchanting . I am living one of those moments."

Meanwhile, social activist Medha Patkar on Thursday said she was yet to take a decision on joining AAP.

Patkar told PTI that senior AAP leader Yogendra Yadav had spoken to her about joining the fledgling party.

"Deliberations are on within the National Alliance of Peoples Movement (NAPM) of which I am a member, about intervention in electoral process by social activists," she said.

A meeting of NAPM will be held in Mumbai on January 12 and later in Wardha on January 23 and 24.

Speaking in Indore, the 59-year-old social activist expressed hope that there would be some clarity by January 15 on whether she would be joining AAP or not. She appreciated the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal.

"The credit goes to Kejriwal and his team to provide a platform for strongly addressing people's issues," Medha said.

"She (Patkar) met Yogendra Yadav yesterday where she was formally asked to join the party. She said she will talk to her people before taking any decision," Anjali Damania, AAP's Maharashtra convenor said.
