Parliament has 10 days to clear Telangana

Centre must pass T bill within the 10 sittings of the 15-day session in February.

Hyderabad: After the chief secretary sends a comprehensive report on the deliberations on Telangana Bill in the Assembly, the Union government will then have ample time to complete the formalities and prepare to introduce the Bill in Parliament.

It is no secret that after Parliament completes the statutory requirement of passing the Vote on Account budgets, the Union home ministry will indicate to the Election Commission that it is ready for the General Election. The EC will most likely announce the election schedule in the last week of February.

Parliament will not be convened once the announcement of the election is made. If the Centre wants the Telangana Bill to be passed before the 2014 General Election, it must thus do so within the 10 sittings of the 15-day session in February.

In a related development, Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was in the city to attend some progr-ammes, said it is for the state Assembly either to accept or reject the Telangana draft Bill sent by the President.

Asked to comment on reports that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was going to float a political party, Mr Azad said, “I don’t think he will do that. He is not only the Congress Chief Minister but also a disciplined Congress soldier.”

Meanwhile, Union minister for Tourism K. Chiranjeevi denied reports appearing in a section of the media that he is reviving the Praja Rajyam.
