Hospitals identified for organ transplant

Identification process was taken up as it require best of infrastructure and expertise.

Rajahmundry: The identification of hospitals for organ transplantation was taken up in both Rajahmundry and Kakinada cities besides Amalapuram in East Godavari to meet the requirements of needy at the nearest place.

According to Dr, Badam Balakrishna, chairman of Badam Charitable Trust which sponsored Dr D.V. Raju Multi-organ Foundation (which was declared open by Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah on January 5 at Kakinada), they are making efforts to identify three each in these two cities besides one at Amalapuram for taking up the organ transplantation successfully.

This identification process was taken up as the multi-organ transplantation require best of infrastructure and expertise in taking up this programme.

“After the identification of the hospitals and the required cognisant by respective hospital managements, we obtain the necessary clearance from the state government for performing the surgeries in addition to inclusion of this medical service under Rajiv Arogyasri programme.”

On the success of their eye foundation which was started about a decade ago, Dr Balakrishana said that so far they have collected more than 1,750 corneas and out of them about 1,250 got eye sight.

The necessary eye operations were performed at Gautami Netralaya at Rajahmundry, Kiran Eye Hospital and Naina Hospital in Kakinada city he said.

Dr Balakrishna on Wednesday said that they have taken up propagation on organ donation on massive scale as they noticed lack of awareness in the public on organ donation as a life-saving act.
