Ireland’s Ambassador to India Laughlin to inaugurate the Irish cultural performances at the HLF.

Hyderabad: This year Ireland will be the guest nation at the Hyderabad Literary Fest 2014.

Ireland’s Ambassador to India Feilim Mc Laughlin will inaugurate the Irish cultural performances at the HLF and Irish Literature will be an important component of the festival.

Well known writers, actors, musicians and many more from the green island are expected to participate in the annual fest.

According to the HLF organisers, a plenary session on Irish Literature will be held on January 24th. Chaired by editor-publisher Declan Meade, the panel will comprise of poet translator Gabriel Rosenstock, scholar writer Professor Waqas Khwaja and this year’s Patrick Kavanagh Prize winner Rafiq Kathwari.

Mouth on Fire theatre group from Dublin will perform two mono acts by legendary Samuel Beckett at Taramati Baradari on January 24. Veteran film and stage actors P.J. Brady and Melissa Nolan will perform in these plays.

Guthanna Binne Siorai of Ireland will perform Everlasting Voices the poetry of Irish Nobel Laureates, accompanied by music and dance at the Taramati Baradari on January 24.

Director of 'Mouth on Fire', Cathal Quinn, Clodagh Smith, Megan Kennedy and Enda Reilly are also expected to participate. Lyricist Enda Reilly will conduct a children's workshop on environmental awareness at Lamakaan on January 25th.

HLF is an annual event that celebrates creativity in all its forms. The festival that was launched in 2010 draws over a hundred writers, artistes, scholars, publishers from India and abroad each year.

HLF is a multi-lingual event with a strong focus on writing in Indian languages.

The festival has grown to be an important event in the cultural calendar of the city, representing as it does the rich and cosmopolitan ethos of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad as well as the vibrant culture of the modern Cyberabad.
