Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the state ringed in New Year with celebrations, there were many who could not enjoy the special moment with their families and friends owing to the nature of their job.
In State capital over 1,000 cops were deployed to maintain law and order during New Year celebrations in the city.
"We all were on our toes and there was no time to think about celebrations,’’ said city police control.
The cops were posted at various locations from Tuesday evening to early hours of Wednesday.
Cops deputed at the 24/7 control rooms also missed out on New Year celebrations.
"During Onam and other important festivals we used to adjust duty in such a manner that everyone gets a chance to spend some time with the family.
But such arrangements are not possible during New Year celebrations,’’ the assistant commissioner added.
While Kochi city was celebrating New Year, many sections of people missed the fun
Over 1000 police personnel were on the roads from 4 pm to 1 am to keep a check on drunken drivers and hooligans.
“It is part of our job and that’s why we enjoy discharging our responsibilities,’’ said Anil George, Kadavanthara SI.
Ernakulam Rural SP Satheesh Bino said hundreds of cops were deployed on the outskirts of the city.
“We booked 230 people for drunken driving and 138 for drinking in public place,” he said.
A section of students of Kerala University was forced to skip New Year bash because of exams on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Some auto drivers deliberately skipped the celebrations to make a fast buck by taking inebriated revelers home.
