Seers oppose Islamic varsity

Seers demand TTD authorities to take over the land where Islamic University is coming.

Visakhapatnam: Seers are demanding TTD authorities to take over the land where a building is coming up for an Islamic University in Tirupati.

At the general body meeting of the Uttarandhra Sadhu Parishad and Hindu Raksha Samithi, held at Visakha Sri Sarada Peetham on Sunday, the seers also warned that they would lay siege to Tirupati with lakhs of devotees- Srivari Dandu if the TTD failed to oblige.

They said that the land belonged to the Thimappa Swamy temple. Unanimous resolutions were passed in this regard at the general body meeting.

“It’s unfortunate that there is no response from authorities even after reports that the land where the varsity is coming up belongs to a temple,” said head of Visakha Sree Sarada Peetham, Swamy Swaroopanandendra Saraswathy.

He added that they would launch a statewide campaign to create awareness about the construction of the varsity and the need to protect the sanctity of the temple town.

“The government should also declare Tirupati town as a Hindu autonomous place. Government should provide assistance and subsidy to the dalits and downtrodden devotees to visit Tirumala in the same way they are helping those going to Jerusalem and Mecca,” said Swamy Sreenivasananda of the Parishad, who also partook in the meeting along with other seers.
