Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday alleged that the centre and the state government had forgotten the common man and was working for the interest of corporate houses.

He was inaugurating the DYFI secretariat siege to protest against the ban on recruitment, corruption and price rise. The central government was implementing policies which were spoiling the job opportunities of the youth, he said.

Jobs were being cut drastically in central government  departments.  Public sector units, including banking  and insurance, were denying jobs to the youth. The situation in the state was equally bad with even those figuring in PSC rank lists not finding jobs.

He said the prices of essential commodities were increasing by the day. The public distribution system, which was functioning effectively providing succour to the poor, had collapsed under the UDF rule, he said.

The Civil Supplies Department and Consumerfed were on the verge of closure. The highest number of applications at the Chief Minister’s mass contact programme pertained  to request for changing the APL ration cards to BPL, he said.
