Fire destroys Sridevi’s house

The family was left with no other option but to evacuate and move into a hotel.

A fire gutted an entire floor of Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s Andheri home on Saturday evening. Following the mishap, the celebrity couple and their daughters, Jhanavi and Khushi, have moved into a hotel.

Sources said that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the air-conditioner of a bedroom on the second floor of the two-storied bungalow.

Speaking to DC, Sridevi’s business manager Pankaj Kharbanda said that the family was shocked, but safe. “Luckily, everyone managed to get out in time.

But a whole floor has been burnt and they cannot live in the house. They stayed at a hotel on Saturday night and are deciding where to move now. The house is destroyed,” he said.

When the fire broke, Sridevi was at home with her mother-in-law and Jhanavi and Khushi. Boney Kapoor was at his office in Bandra. He rushed home when he heard about the fire but the family had evacuated safely by that time. Their two pet dogs were also brought out safely.

“The ground floor of the house, which has the living room and kitchen, needs to be cleared of water and charred objects to assess the damage. The first floor was damaged by smoke and water while the second floor, which had the bedrooms, was completely burnt,” Kharbanda said.

He added that Sridevi’s entire wardrobe was destroyed as were several paintings that she had worked on herself. Nothing in the bedroom could be salvaged.

Sources close to the Kapoor family said that the family had lost assets and valuables worth lakhs of rupees, which were not insured.

The fire that broke out on the second floor, engulfed the entire bedroom as the windows were shut.

Everything in the room – jewellery, electronic items and clothes – were lost in the fire.

“As the Kapoors were not insured, they will not be compensated for the household items that were gutted in the fire,” the source added.

The fire brigade officials confirmed on Sunday that the cause of the fire was a short circuit in the air conditioning unit.
