Yeddyurappa in? Not so fast

Karnataka ex-chief minister's supporters urged Modi to have Yeddyurappa reinducted into the BJP at the earliest.

New Delhi: Uncertainty prevails within the BJP over the return of its former leader, Lingayat strongman B.S. Yeddyurappa. While party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has asked Yeddyurappa to be ready to rejoin the saffron fold, the Yeddyurappa camp is getting confusing signals from the BJP central leadership.

Modi, it is learnt, is getting surveys done in individual Assembly constituencies in Karnataka on the BJP's poll prospects with and without Yeddyurappa. This is being done to press for Yeddyurappa's return to the saffron fold though a section within the party still opposes his return.

Yeddyurappa's supporters in the BJP had met Modi on Thursday in Belgaum, where he had gone to attend a private function.

The Karnataka ex-chief minister's supporters urged Modi to have Yeddyurappa reinducted into the BJP at the earliest as there was not much time left for preparations for the Lok Sabha polls.

Modi, it is learnt, assured them he would take up the matter personally with BJP chief Rajnath Singh. The BJP election campaign committee is likely to meet on December 24.

A section in the BJP, including L.K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj, are not keen to seen Yeddyurappa return.
