Hyderabad: A woman sarpanch of Madhoor mandal, Mannapuram in Mahbubnagar district was burnt alive late on Wednesday evening. The victim was identified as M. Manikyamma, 70. She was first attacked with boulders and then burnt alive. According to the police, Manikyamma, who went to work in her field was returning back late in the evening.
It was when she reached the riverbed, a group of unidentified persons, who were hidden in the bushes came out and attacked her with boulders and sharp weapons. She fell down but the attackers did not stop hitting her with boulders. When she started to scream out for help, the accused poured kerosene on Manikyamma and set ablaze. The locals found her dead.
Manikyamma recently became a sarpanch. Earlier, there was attempt to kill her by poisoning.
