Congress failed to exploit Scindia factor in Madhya Pradesh; Shivraj Singh Chouhan scores hat-trick

Cong gave the youngster little time to work the party poll against a popular Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Bhopal: The Congress failed to take advantage of the Jyotiraditya Scindia factor in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election as it gave the scion of the erstwhile ruling family of Gwalior, who is known for his youthful and clean mage, little time to consolidate the state Congress election apparatus against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its formidable campaign led by state chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Chouhan is extremely popular but was also carrying the burden of anti-incumbency .

Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had reflected upon the uphill task his party faced in Madhya Pradesh when it came to putting its act together for the Assembly elections.

Last year in December he had talked of the Dabra convention held at the initiative of his father late Madhavrao Scindia to forge unity among state party leaders before the 1993 state Assembly election which the Congress had won.

Addressing journalists, he had then said that this convention was held when all state Congress leaders had sat down together repeatedly and taken the vow that they will remain united.

Once again, before going for the 2013 electoral battle, all Congress leaders rom Madhya Pradesh will have to sit down together several times in a row, to build unity and work with the same Dabra spirit, he had emphasised.

As projected by Mr Scindia, several rounds of meetings were held between the top state Congress leaders in New Delhi before he was appointed the chairman of the Congress Campaign Committee in Madhya Pradesh.

The Congress leadership however held back the decision to declare him as the party’s chief ministerial candidate.

Hat-trick victory for Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan scored a hat-trick on Sunday, buoyed by which, he vowed to bag maximum number of seats from his state for BJP in next Lok Sabha elections.

BJP’s number of seats appears set to increase by around ten this time from the 143 it had won in the last Assembly elections.

A humble Singh gave the credit for the third consecutive victory of BJP in the state to the organisational set-up and workers, saying, “Had anyone else also been there in his place, BJP would have won.”

He also hit out the Congress-led UPA govermnent, accusing it of “discrimination with Madhya Pradesh” and noted that neither people in Delhi nor in Madhya Pradesh are ready to accept a Congress government.

“And that is why our effort will be that when we fight the next Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Narendra Modi, it should be Madhya Prad-esh, which contributes the maximum number seats among all states to form a goverment at the Centre.

“We will not spare any efforts to achieve it. We will work to the maximum to achieve this,” Chouhan said, adding that he saying this with regard to BJP-ruled states.

The Chief Minister, who was the mascot in the BJP’s campaign in the state, said, “I express my gratitude to the party.” He said, “This is BJP, which is getting a big work done by a small worker...Shivraj is an ordinary worker.

The miracle is of the organisation. Had there been any other worker in place of Shivraj, even then BJP would have won”. Mr Chouhan described the result as “victory of the people”.

He congratulated all senior BJP leaders including Gujarat CM Narendra Modi for the victory in MP. Modi had addressed a number of rallies in the state particularly in the last leg of the campaigning.

Congress, on the other hand, failed to take advantage of the Jyotiraditya Scindia factor in the polls as it gave him little time to consolidate the state Congress election apparatus against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its campaign.
