ML sceptical about RaGa effect on polls

The statement made by IUML leader E.T. Mohammed Basheer has triggered a controversy.

Thiruvananthapuram: The statement made by IUML leader E.T. Mohammed Basheer has triggered a controversy by suggesting that Rahul Gandhi’s electoral appeal did not match that of his father, grandmother, great grandfather or other scions of Gandhi family.

The Youth Congress hit back at Basheer saying Rahul does not require his certificate. Youth Congress national general secretary M. Liju said that Basheer’s opinion was personal and added that even the League did not share the view. He also asked him to withdraw the statement and express his regrets.

Basheer told reporters in Delhi on Friday that the infighting in the Congress would affect the electoral prospects of the UDF in the Lok Sabha elections.

Basheer also said that the lapse of the home department in the case of the accused in the TPC murder case had damaged the image of the UDF. The League will raise the issue in the UDF meeting.
