Guna Shekar, director of the magnum opus 'Rudrama Devi', was keen have Mahesh Babu don the role of an important character of Gona Ganna Reddy. Though Mahesh has a lot of regard for Guna Shekar, he has decided not to be a part of the movie as the role is a small one and the movie is woman-oriented.
Guna Shekar was in no mood to give up till last minute, but had to concede with Mahesh’s refusal. With the shooting schedules of the film coming to the fag-end, and only Gona Reddy’s portions pending, the director was looking for alternatives.
According to sources, Ravi Teja has now been approached for the role and Ravi has also shown interest. Initially Ravi Teja initially worked with Guna Shakar as his assistant director and he also did 'Nippu' with him recently, but the film was one of his biggest flops.
'Rudramma Devi' stars Anushka in the title role while Rana and a host of top actors are part of this big-budget film.
The film has Illayaraja scoring the music while Thota Tharani is taking care of sets. Huge sets have been erected for the film in the outskirts of Hyderabad.
