Hyderabad: A 26-year-old man allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl and later locked her up inside a cupboard in his house at Sanjay Gandhinagar, Jagathgirigutta, under Jeedimetla police station limits.

The accused has been identified as Bablu, a mechanic who earlier used to live in the house next to the victim’s in Sanjay Gandhinagar. He had recently shifted to another house in the same neighbourhood.

According to Jeedimetla inspector M. Sudershan, on Sunday evening at around 4 pm, Bablu lured the Class II student with chocolates. He took her to his room and raped her. Later, to conceal his crime, Bablu locked up the victim in his almirah and left the house.”

At around 7.30 pm, when the minor girl’s father realised that she was missing, he started searching for her in the neighbourhood.

“The victim’s parents approached Bablu and questioned him about their child’s whereabouts, but he claimed that he had not seen the child. He asked the victim’s relatives to search his house. When they looked inside, they could not see the girl,” Sudershan said.

The victim’s family members had almost left Bablu’s house, when, on a second thought, they decided to do a thorough check.

“While searching Bablu’s house the second time, the victim's father started shouting out her name. Then he heard her faint cries from inside the almirah,” the inspector added.

People then forced open the cupboard and rescued the child. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s grandmother on Monday, a case was registered under Sections 376, 342 and 366 of the IPC and the relevant Section of the Prevention of Child from Sexual Abuse Act. Police is yet to show arrest.
