UTV finally gets 'Purampokku' title?

Arya-Vijay Sethupathi film, 'Purampokku', ran into title trouble.

A few days ago, the new Arya-Vijay Sethupathi film, 'Purampokku', ran into title trouble since cinematographer/actor Nataraj claimed that he had registered the title with the Producers’ Council. The movie is being produced by UTV Motion Pictures and National Award winner S.P. Jananathan is directing it.

Now, UTV, in an official press release, clarifies that the title Purampokku clearly belongs to them, substantiating their stand with the suitable documents. It states, “There were speculations about whether the title Purampokku belonged to UTV or not. We wish to clarify that the title is retained by us and the same was confirmed by the South Indian Film Chamber, the Tamil Film Producers’ Council and Film & Television Producers’ Guild. Hence, no more confusion and we retain the title for the film from writer-director S.P. Jhananathan as 'Purampokku — No Man’s Land', starring Arya and Vijay Sethupathi.”

When Natraj was contacted by DC, he still maintains that the title 'Purampokku' belongs to him. “I had registered it with the Producers’ Council in November 2012. I have a receipt as well for it. Having started the trouble, I did meet Jananathan sir at Karu Pazhaniappan office and explained him about the importance of 'Purampokku' to my story and that I cannot part with it. He also agreed to change his title. Presently, I am in Mumbai shooting for 'Thuppakki' ‘s Hindi remake. They spoke to me over the phone only. I am back in the city in a day or two and want to sort it out in person.”

However, Dhananjeyan, head, UTV South, tells DC, “The title 'Purampokku' always belonged to us. Binary Pictures. who are co-producing the movie with us, has already registered the title with the Council. As claimed by Natraj, Jana never agreed to change or part with the title”.
