Nalgonda: A 50-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her brother over a family land dispute at Thummala Penphad village in Athmakur (S) mandal of Suryapet district on Monday, police said.

The victim, Surigi Anjamma, was on her way to an NREGP work site on the outskirts of the village when her brother, Saidulu, allegedly attacked her indiscriminately with a knife, killing her on the spot. Police said the siblings had been quarrelling for some time over two acres of land registered by their parents in Anjamma’s name.

After the attack, Saidulu fled the village. Superintendent of police K. Narsimha visited the scene and inquired with local police officials about the incident.

Speaking to reporters, Narsimha said cases had earlier been registered against Anjamma and Saidulu following complaints lodged by them against each other. Athmakur police had also bound them over before the tahsildar and warned them against attacking each other.

Police shifted Anjamma’s body to the Government General Hospital in Suryapet for autopsy. A case has been registered and efforts are on to trace Saidulu.
