Inter First-Year Student Attempts Suicide at KGBV in Narayanpet District
The circumstances that led to the alleged suicide attempt are yet to be established
An Intermediate first-year student allegedly attempted suicide at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Pediripad in Maddur mandal of Narayanpet district on Tuesday. According to preliminary information, fellow students alerted the staff after the incident, following which the girl was shifted to a nearby hospital and later referred to Mahbubnagar Government Hospital for specialised treatment.
Asked about the condition of the student, P.V. Srihari, additional state project director, Samagra Shiksha, told Deccan Chronicle that she was conscious and able to speak.
The circumstances that led to the alleged suicide attempt are yet to be established. Another source added that it was not related to academic pressure but personal reasons. Officials have not disclosed whether the student had raised any grievances before the incident or if she has given a statement explaining what happened.
The incident has raised concerns over student welfare in residential educational institutions. It was not immediately clear whether the Gurukul Society or the education department had ordered an inquiry into the incident. Police were also yet to provide details on whether a case had been registered.
Excise department seizes non-duty-paid liquor
The xcise department seized non-duty-paid liquor and booked cases during a series of enforcement drives conducted near Hyderabad airport and in other parts of the state. Personnel from Shamshabad, Rajendranagar and Meerpet excise stations, along with the Hyderabad and Secunderabad district task forces and the Hyderabad enforcement team, participated in the operation near the airport under the supervision of Hyderabad deputy prohibition and excise officer Vijay Bhaskar Goud.
During the inspections, officials seized 28 liquor bottles brought from Goa and other regions without paying applicable state duties.
In another operation led by assistant commissioner (enforcement) Gayatri, district task force and Zaheerabad teams seized 25 liquor bottles being transported from during vehicle inspections.
Separate raids were also conducted in Chenchulapalli and Julurupadu in Kothagudem district where officials seized 189 nips and 132 beer bottles found stocked for unauthorised sale.
Excise, police bust drug trafficking operations, 2 arrested, 2.85 kgs ganja seized
In two separate incidents, excise officials and Medchal police busted drug trafficking operations, arrested two persons and seized 2.85 kgs of ganja.
In the first case, the excise STF D team, led by circle inspector Nagaraju, apprehended Bulli Abhiram, 29, while selling ganja at Vasanthnagar colony under the Nizampet excise station limits and seized 850 grams of ganja, a motorcycle and a mobile phone.
In another case, Medchal police arrested Alok Sarkar, a native of Odisha residing at Kistapur, after seizing 2 kgs of ganja valued at around `1 lakh. Police said the accused allegedly procured the contraband from Odisha with the help of his associate Sohail, who is absconding.
Sajjanar reviews security arrangements for Bonalu festival
City police commissioner V. C. Sajjanar directed officials to make comprehensive security arrangements for the Ashada Masam Bonalu festival, which will be celebrated across the city from July 16 to August 13.
Reviewing the preparedness through a video conference here on Tuesday, Sajjanar assessed security arrangements at key Bonalu temples, including Golconda, Balkampet, Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad and Lal Darwaza. He sought updates from senior officers on the measures being implemented at the field level.
Describing the first 15 days of the festival, beginning with Golconda Bonalu, as crucial, Sajjanar instructed officials to make security deployments based on the anticipated influx of devotees. Referring to review meetings conducted by ministers Konda Surekha and Ponnam Prabhakar, he directed police officers to implement the ministers’ instructions on the ground in coordination with all concerned government departments to facilitate peaceful darshan for devotees.
To prevent untoward incidents, the commissioner ordered the deployment of task force personnel, rapid action force, city armed reserve, quick reaction teams and local police. He also instructed officials to install public address systems around temple premises to keep devotees informed.
Giving priority to the safety of women devotees, Sajjanar directed SHE Teams to maintain continuous surveillance. Recalling that 644 eve-teasers were caught during previous Bonalu celebrations, he instructed officials to intensify measures against eve-teasing, chain snatching, mobile phone theft and pickpocketing.
Sajjanar also stressed effective traffic regulation around temple areas and directed officers to ensure adequate deployment for Bonalu processions, Pothuraju performances and Ghatam processions. He urged the force to replicate the efficient arrangements made during previous festivals to ensure the celebrations are conducted peacefully.
Woman booked for obtaining loan pledging counterfeit ornaments
Amberpet police registered a cheating case against a woman for obtaining a loan of ₹2.6 lakh by pledging counterfeit gold ornaments at a pawn shop.
According to the complaint filed by J.S. Kishan Gandhi, proprietor of Maa Jewellers and Pawn Brokers at Lalbagh, Golnaka, the accused, identified as Mariyam, pledged a gold chain and necklace on March 5, claiming they were Hallmark 916 gold. Based on the claim, the pawn broker sanctioned a loan of ₹2.6 lakh.
The fraud came to light when the pledged ornaments were sent for verification at a bank and were found to be fake.
Employee disappears while transporting ornaments worth ₹67 lakh
Gold and silver ornaments worth ₹67 lakh went missing after a logistics employee disappeared while transporting the consignment from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. A cheating case was registered with Kachiguda police.
According to the complaint, Bangal Singh Rambharosa Parmar, proprietor of Surya Logistics at Nimboliadda re-employed former worker Ram Singh Tomar, 22, a native of Madhya Pradesh, on July 10 and handed him with transporting 14 parcels containing gold ornaments and one parcel containing about 3 kg of silver ornaments to their Vijayawada branch through a travels bus.
The complainant stated that he and his family were in Rajasthan following the death of his wife, while the business was being managed by the staff. The consignment was valued at approximately ₹67 lakh. However, the employee failed to reach Vijayawada. On enquiry, the bus driver informed that Tomar got down near Ramoji Film City around 12.15 am on July 11 claiming that he was unwell. Thereafter, his mobile phone was found switched off.
Suspecting that the employee had fled with the valuables, the complainant approached the police. Efforts are underway to trace the suspect and recover the missing ornaments.
Police track down murder case suspect disguised as Baba
A history-sheeter wanted in a murder case spent months disguised as a Baba to evade police before being tracked down by the Hyderabad task force sleuths and Saifabad police which also recovered 115 grams of dry ganja from his possession.
According to the police, the accused, Shaik Javed, rowdy sheeter on the Lake police rolls, had been absconding since June 5, 2025. He is also an accused in a 2018 murder case registered at Saifabad police station, in which a non-bailable warrant was issued by the court.
Khairatabad zone task force, under the supervision of Inspector P. Raghavender, along with Saifabad police, apprehended Javed near Pool Bagh, close to Nana Miya Masjid under the Saifabad police limits. During the search, police seized about 115 grams of dry ganja and a green-coloured Peer Baba outfit kept in a polythene bag.
During interrogation, Javed confessed that he fled Hyderabad in January 2026 and took shelter at his grandparents’ house near Cheriyal Road in Sangareddy district. To avoid being identified and arrested, he started posing as a Baba and worked as a priest at Jindesha Madar Dargah near Cheriyal Road in Kandi.
Union minister’s relative approaches police to stop circulation of false videos
A relative of union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar approached city cybercrime police alleging that false and defamatory videos circulating on social media maliciously linked him to a fake allegation. Cybercrime police registered an FIR against journalist Rakesh, Tirupathi of TRTV and others.
According to the complaint, Harshith Kaveti, a 29-year-old UPSC aspirant, stated that he came across videos on July 12 alleging that a person named Harshith, described as the minister's nephew impregnated a woman belonging to the scheduled caste community, who worked at an office in Manikonda. He claimed that his photographs were circulated because of his relationship with minister Kumar, despite having no connection with the allegations or any office in Manikonda.
The complainant alleged that the videos caused severe mental agony, social stigma and harassment to him and his family, besides affecting his UPSC preparation.
Kaveti also submitted an audio recording, alleging it captured a conversation discussing ways to falsely implicate him and evade legal consequences. He urged police to verify its authenticity and investigate the alleged conspiracy. The complaint also sought removal of the videos, identification of all social media accounts involved in disseminating the content, and criminal action against those responsible.
Attapur Police Intervene After Viral Audio Exposes Dispute Over Religious Message on Autorickshaw
A social media post alleging that a man threatened an autorickshaw driver — both belonging to different religions — for displaying a religious message on the rear of his vehicle sparked attention online. Attapur police stepped in and contacted the driver to verify the matter.
According to police, a sub-inspector contacted the driver after tracing the autorickshaw through its registration number to ascertain the facts behind the claim. During the conversation, the SI introduced himself as an officer from Attapur police tation and asked the driver about the message displayed on the vehicle.
A purported audio record of the conversation then went on viral social media. The SI summoned the driver to the police station, saying that such a message violated rules. The driver refused. The call ended with the SI stating that the driver could be booked if he did not come to the station. Later, a source confirmed that different parties approached the police and subsequently, no case as registered with Attapur police.
Cyberabad Police Bust Pan-India Racket, Arrest 13 for Diverse Cyber Frauds
Cyberabad cybercrime sleuths arrested 13 persons in connection with eight cybercrime cases detected between June 25 and July 12 involving and exposing a pan-India network involved in trading, visa, cryptocurrency, child pornography and job frauds.
According to police, the cases comprised four trading frauds, one visa fraud, one cryptocurrency fraud, one child pornography case and one job fraud. Of the 13 arrests, eight were linked to trading fraud cases. During the period, police also secured 239 court-approved refund orders in 36 cases, enabling victims to recover ₹76.09 lakh.
Among the major cases, police busted a fake trading and IPO investment scam in which a woman was cheated of ₹61.39 lakh. Fraudsters lured her through an Instagram advertisement, added her to WhatsApp groups posing as investment analysts and convinced her to trade through a forged application. The application displayed fake profits exceeding ₹1.14 crore and initially allowed a withdrawal of `4,500 to gain her confidence before inducing repeated investments through multiple bank accounts and UPI IDs. When she sought to withdraw the remaining amount, the fraudsters demanded commissions, taxes and processing charges before disappearing.
Police arrested Tilak Seiwal, Kapil Ahir and Sumit Ahir of Madhya Pradesh for providing bank accounts used to route the cheated money. They advised the public to verify SEBI registration before investing, avoid downloading trading apps through social media links and report cyber fraud immediately by calling 1930 or visiting www.cybercrime.gov.in
Police return ₹12 lakh worth of lost mobile phones
Karimnagar Town-I police on Tuesday returned 31 lost mobile phones worth around ₹12 lakh to their owners after tracing and recovering them with the help of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.
The recovered phones were handed over to their owners during a programme held at the Town-I Police Station.
Speaking on the occasion, Town ACP N. Venkataswamy advised people to register complaints on the CEIR portal immediately after losing their mobile phones, besides lodging a complaint at the nearest police station.
He said timely reporting would help the police trace and recover lost mobile phones more effectively.
