DGP Moots Raising Conviction Rate in Drug Cases
Anand instructed officials to ensure effective policing, frequent inspections of stations, and encouragement of community policing
NALGONDA: Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Tuesday underscored the need to increase the conviction rate, particularly in drug‑related cases. Speaking at a media conference in Khammam after a crime review meeting with officials, he said police were focusing on curbing the drug menace, especially ganja smuggling, and tackling cyber crimes.
While Khammam police were performing well, he noted that conviction rates must improve. “If court work is not handled effectively, conviction rates will fall. Police should present evidence properly to ensure punishment,” he said, appreciating patrolling and surprise checks.
He cautioned against attempts to create clashes through provocative social media posts, saying five persons had been identified in Khammam and were under surveillance. Action would be taken soon, he added.
Anand instructed officials to ensure effective policing, frequent inspections of stations, and encouragement of community policing. He stressed continuous surveillance of rowdy sheeters and anti‑social elements. He reminded that Telangana police had adopted modern technologies and were among the top in controlling cyber crimes and instructed strict and accurate implementation of CCTNS data management.
Replying to a question, he said a special team had been set up to crack the murder case of CPM leader Samineni Rama Rao. On Maoists, Anand said they could be considered rooted out, but surveillance would continue on surrendered cadres.
He announced that a traffic management bureau, on the lines of the anti-narcotic EAGLE Force will soon be established to improve road safety. Further he instructed the police officials not to interfere in civil and land disputes and directed to strictly follow standard operating procedures.
