Andhra Pradesh: Ola Electric Ordered To Refund Consumer With 12% Interest
Consumer commission awards Rs. 90,000 compensations, Rs. 10,000 litigation costs: Reports
KURNOOL: The Kurnool District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Ola Electric Mobility Private Limited and its Kurnool showroom to refund ₹1,34,161 to a consumer with 12 per cent annual interest, besides paying ₹90,000 as compensation and ₹10,000 towards litigation costs.
The order was passed in Consumer Complaint No. 65/2026 filed by Y. Raghavendra of Gondiparla, Kurnool. He had booked an Ola Roadster X Plus electric vehicle and paid the full amount on October 2, 2025. The vehicle was scheduled for delivery on October 23, 2025, but was not delivered despite repeated emails, WhatsApp messages, customer-support complaints and a grievance filed with the National Consumer Helpline.
Ola contended that the delivery date was only indicative and depended on operational and regulatory factors. However, the Commission, comprising president Karanam Kishore Kumar and member S. Nazima Kausar, observed that the company had failed to provide sufficient documentary evidence to explain the prolonged delay.
The Commission held that an indicative delivery date did not give the company an unrestricted right to retain the consumer’s money for months. It also observed that registration and insurance did not amount to physical delivery.
The Commission found that the delay caused inconvenience, mental agony and loss of livelihood opportunity, amounting to deficiency in service. It ordered the refund with interest from October 2, 2025, until the date of actual payment.
