Andhra Pradesh: Coal-Loaded Goods Train Derails, Delays 14 Passenger Trains

KAKINADA: A coal-loaded goods train derailed near Kovvur railway station on Monday morning, delaying 14 passenger trains on the Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada route. Railway authorities said there were no injuries or casualties.
The freight train was carrying coal from Odisha to an APGenco terminal power station when the wheels of its second wagon slipped off the rails while it was switching tracks. The derailed wagon blocked the main line towards Vijayawada, while the track-switching signals stopped working.
An accident relief train with technical staff reached the spot from Rajamahendravaram within 15 minutes. The wagon was placed back on the rails and the tracks were inspected before the route was certified safe for train movement at 11.15 am.
The first train crossed the affected stretch at 11.48 am, with the Puri-Tirupati Express being the first passenger service to pass through, railway authorities said.
A total of 14 passenger trains were affected, with most being temporarily stopped at nearby stations or delayed at their starting points.
The Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express, Howrah-Bengaluru Duronto Express, Janmabhoomi Express and Coromandel Express were among the trains halted at stations including Rajamahendravaram, Kadiyam and Tuni.
