TIRUPATI: Tirupati district police have intensified traffic enforcement against violations linked to road accidents, including drunk driving, triple riding and mobile phone use while driving.
The special checks were conducted on the directions of superintendent of police L. Subba Rayudu. During drunk-driving checks within the limits of Tirupati Traffic Police Station, police registered cases against 20 motorists found driving after consuming alcohol. Two more cases were registered for obstructing traffic. The Special Judicial Magistrate Court imposed fines on all 22 offenders.
Separately, traffic police conducted checks at Purnakumbham Circle against triple riding and mobile phone use while driving. Violators were counselled on the risks involved and fined as per the rules.
SP Rayudu said drunk driving, triple riding and mobile phone use while driving could lead to accidents. He advised motorists to follow traffic rules and avoid such violations.
