Coastal Security In Nellore To Be Strengthened
Nellore officials will intensify coastal surveillance, patrols and boat verification along the district’s 125-km coastline to curb illegal activities.
District collector Himanshu Shukla has directed officials to work in close coordination to strengthen coastal security in Nellore district and prevent illegal activities.
Chairing the district-level coastal security committee meeting at the collectorate on Monday, the collector reviewed coastal surveillance, patrolling, identification and verification of fishermen’s boats and existing security arrangements.
He ordered continuous surveillance and regular patrolling along the 125-km coast and directed officials to immediately share information on any suspicious movement or activity with the departments concerned and security agencies.
The collector also stressed strict verification of fishermen’s boats and preventive measures to stop unauthorised entry of boats from neighbouring states. He called for stronger coordination and swift information-sharing among agencies involved in coastal security. There are 3,747 motorised boats in the district.
Officials from the police, coastal security police, fisheries, panchayat raj, customs, Krishnapatnam Port, intelligence bureau, state ports and Indian Coast Guard, among others, attended the meeting.
