Bhubaneswar: A shocking case of alleged domestic violence has emerged from Odisha’s Cuttack district, where a woman was on Monday accused of killing her husband following a prolonged family dispute, police said on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Manoj Mallik of Alara village under the Badamba area, was allegedly attacked at his in-laws’ residence in Karadibandha village.

According to a complaint lodged by Manoj’s father, Basant Mallik, the victim had been called to the house by his wife, Laxmipriya Rout, before the incident took place. The complainant alleged that his son was fatally assaulted and accused his daughter-in-law of murdering him by chopping off his private parts after tensions within the family escalated over time.

Following the complaint, Odisha Police registered a murder case at Badamba Police Station and launched an investigation into the incident. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause and nature of death.

Athagarh SDPO Biswajit Mohanty told reporters that a case bearing number 194/2026 has been registered and that investigators are examining all possible angles.

The case has, however, taken a complicated turn after the deceased’s wife reportedly claimed that Manoj died by suicide. The victim’s family has rejected the claim, insisting that he was murdered.

Police officials said the post-mortem findings will be crucial in establishing the circumstances surrounding the death. No arrests had been officially confirmed till the filing of this report, and investigators are continuing to gather evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.
