Belagavi: Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai announced that a 108-feet tall statue of social reformer Basaveshwara will be constructed on the banks of Ghataprabha in Belagavi district.

The chief minister made the announcement after performing pooja for the construction of the statue of Basavanna at Tinasukate along with other development works in Belagavi.

The statue is being constructed with the aim of making the area an international tourism spot.

"The teachings of the 12th-century social reformer are an essential part of people's lives. Basavanna had started the 'Anubhava Mantap', which is relevant even during the modern times. The discussions held in the Mantap, which opposed inequality, blind beliefs, and bad practices, continue to be significant," Bommai said.

He stressed the importance of following Basavanna's teachings to bring about social changes and promote progressive thinking.

KLE Institutions working president Prabhakar Kore, MLAs Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Abhay Patil, and others were present.
