Walking, but Make It Hot

Inspired by Megan Thee Stallion, the ‘Hot Girl Walk’ trend is making fitness easier to stick to

Channel your inner Megan Thee Stallion energy. If it is a Hot Girl Summer, why not a Hot Girl Walk? What began as a vibe is now a full blown fitness movement. Coined by Mia Lind, the trend takes unapologetic confidence off the dance floor and onto the streets.

We spoke to Kushal Pal Singh, fitness and performance expert at Anytime Fitness India. “The appeal lies in how it democratises fitness. Walking is often overlooked, yet it delivers strong cardiovascular, weight and mental health benefits. Its biggest advantage is sustainability. Without the intimidation of high intensity workouts, people are more likely to stick with it,” he says.

So how do you do it right?

Start with a 5-minute warm-up. Move into 25 to 40 minutes of brisk walking at a pace that challenges you but still allows conversation. Add short speed bursts or inclines for intensity. Finish with a gradual cool down and light stretches. Simple, flexible and easy to sustain.

But experts caution against overhyping trends. “They can spark movement, but are often short lived. When the hype fades, motivation can dip too,” Singh adds. Dr Aarathi Bellary, Consultant in Internal Medicine at KIMS Hospitals, agrees. “The Hot Girl Walk works because it feels fun. Walking is a powerful, low stress cardio habit that people are more likely to maintain. It boosts mood and builds consistency. But it is not a complete fitness solution. It works best as part of a broader routine.”

For marathon runner Vaishakha Dharmamer, the trend goes beyond aesthetics. “I used to think workouts had to be exhausting to count. This changed that. It helps build endurance without burnout. On days I cannot run, I do not skip. I walk. I come back feeling stronger, not drained,” she says.

What started as a TikTok trend now feels more practical than viral. A reminder that fitness does not need to be punishing to work. Sometimes, consistency is enough.
