‘The Paradise’ Heads ‘Toxic’ Way

Nani’s The Paradise was billed as an epic. It isn’t playing out that way, though.
Released worldwide on September 24, Srikanth Odela’s high-octane thriller is tracking toward a major box-office failure, following the same trajectory as Yash’s Toxic.
Early trends show poor word of mouth and rapidly declining footfalls. Like Toxic, which opened to Rs 120 crore before crashing 70% on day two, The Paradise rode on strong pre-sales but has collapsed post-release.
The parallels don’t end there. Both films leaned on extreme, gritty violence, both saw their stars defend the A certification and both producers rushed to court for ex-parte injunctions days before release to block leaks and negative reviews.
With massive budgets and no major digital deals in place, The Paradise is now staring at historic losses.
