YTPS’ New Unit Records 158.7 MW Peak Load
The 800-MW unit is expected to begin commercial operations in November 2026, taking plant capacity to 4,000 MW.
Hyderabad: Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TG Genco) on Friday said the newly-synchronised 800-MW unit of the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) has recorded a peak load of 158.7 MW during its initial coal-firing trial.
The unit was subsequently hand-tripped to complete preparatory works, with its commercial operation date (COD) expected in November 2026. Once commissioned, it will take YTPS to its full installed capacity of 4,000 MW.
The new unit — the fifth one at the power station — was synchronised to the grid on October 20. The four units of the station, which are already in commercial operation, supply 1,800 MW to 2,300 MW to the state grid.
To sustain generation, coal from the Naini block is arriving at 4–5 rakes daily, while Mahanadi Coalfields Limited coal under Window-II of the SHAKTI Policy-2025 is being mobilised. Coal Handling Plant upgrades with BHEL are expected by the end of October, enabling a rated capacity of 2,500 tonnes per hour and unloading of 12–14 rakes daily.
Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal and TGGENCO CMD Dr S. Harish are personally overseeing the works through site inspections and twice-daily reviews.
