VH Files Police Plaint Against PM For His MMC Remarks
Rao termed Modi’s remarks as “most insulting” against the Congress
HYDERABAD: Government adviser V. Hanumantha Rao lodged a police complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks against the Congress party, describing it as “Muslim League‑Maoist Congress” (MMC) during Sunday’s public meeting here.
In his complaint, Rao termed Modi’s remarks as “most insulting” against the Congress. He expressed angst over Congress being called the MMC party. He noted that it is highly unbecoming of a person holding the Prime Minister’s office to indulge in “abusive, insulting, unpardonable, and objectionable” remarks against the Congress party. “In fact, the Congress party functionaries have been victims of Maoists and terrorists in the past,” he said, adding that former Prime Ministers Indira and Rajiv Gandhi were victims of these elements.
On the Muslim contribution to India’s independence struggle, he highlighted the services of leaders like Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. “When this is the history, how dare the Prime Minister term the Congress party as Muslim League‑Maoist Congress party? Ours is the most secular party in the country,” he added.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, he condemned Modi’s jibe. “Modi made malicious remarks against the Congress. Is that the kind of language a Prime Minister should use? It is wrong to label the Congress party as a ‘Muslim and Maoist party’. Are Muslims not human beings? Modi is attempting to divide the nation and doing whatever the RSS dictates to him,” he alleged.
Earlier, on several occasions, the Prime Minister has repeatedly attacked the Congress by labelling it the “Muslim League‑Maoist Congress,” particularly during poll campaigns. He used this term to allege that the party has moved toward extremist and communal ideologies, claiming it has become “more communal” than the Muslim League and “more Leftist” than the Left parties.
