HYDERABAD: BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar challenged the lack of a BC option in the ongoing Census. He alleged there were loopholes in the enumeration exercise, which had only options for the SC and ST communities.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, the minister demanded that the state BJP respond to the discrimination being shown by the Centre against Telangana. He remarked that BJP leaders were constantly harping on their desire to capture power in the state, but they must instead explain what the Centre had done for the state over the past 12 years. He challenged the BJP leaders to a public debate regarding the funds received by Telangana from the Centre during the Modi administration.

Meanwhile, government adviser V. Hanumantha Rao accused the Centre of lacking sincerity towards the BC community. He urged Jana Sena chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to influence the BJP leadership to hold the nationwide BC census, alleging that the current administration was neglecting the community.

Rao further noted that Modi lacked the sincerity towards BCs that Revanth Reddy possesses. “Modi is deceiving the BC community and doing injustice to 600 million people. Unless a census of BCs is conducted, we will not receive justice. If there is no provision for BCs, they should not participate in the census,” he added.
