HYDERABAD: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has taken note of the death of a pregnant woman and her newborn child allegedly due to absence of a doctor at the Government Hospital at Gundala in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.

According to commission, Datla Vanaja, 20, a resident of Shambhunigudem village was taken to the hospital with labour pains. It was alleged that the duty doctor was not available at the hospital at the relevant time and that a nurse conducted the delivery.

The newborn child reportedly died shortly after birth and the mother subsequently succumbed while undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital, Khammam. The relatives of the deceased allegedly attributed the deaths to the absence of the doctor and inadequate medical facilities and staff at the hospital.
