Nalgonda: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday alleged that welfare schemes and development activities in Telangana had slowed over the past two-and-a-half years, reversing earlier progress.

Addressing a party meeting at Venkatagiri in Khammam district to sensitise cadre on the Special Intensive Revision, he said the Congress government’s policies were affecting the state’s development.

He claimed that public dissatisfaction with the government’s policies would help the BRS return to power in the next Assembly elections and urged party leaders and cadre to work towards that goal.

Rama Rao criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over demolition of houses at Velugumatla in Khammam, alleging that affected families had been left without shelter. He also accused three ministers from the district of acting in a manner comparable to a “Dandupalya” gang.

He said the previous BRS government had executed major projects, including the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, advanced the Sitarama project, established medical colleges and strengthened government hospitals through borrowings.

He alleged that the present government had incurred a debt of Rs 2.5 lakh crore in two-and-a-half years and challenged the Chief Minister to disclose the utilisation of the funds.

Targeting revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, he alleged that large extents of land had been placed under the prohibited list and that landowners were being pressured. He also referred to the Congress’ promise on construction of Indiramma houses, stating that only 4.5 lakh houses had been sanctioned so far.

Rama Rao said the previous government had abolished land tax and alleged that the current government was planning to reintroduce it, increasing the burden on farmers.

He also asked party workers to ensure that no votes of BRS supporters were deleted during the revision exercise.
