Raymond's Tomb Restoration Gets ₹14 Lakh Support From French Embassy

HYDERABAD: The French Embassy/Bureau de France, Hyderabad has announced financial assistance of ₹14 lakh for the conservation of Raymond’s tomb here.

The announcement was made during a review meeting convened by the special chief secretary to government (youth advancement, tourism & culture department), A. Vani Prasad, with a French delegation and senior officials, here on Wednesday.

During the review, Prasad stressed the importance of preserving Raymond's tomb, a monument of historical significance that symbolises the long-standing cultural and historical ties between France and Hyderabad.

The Telangana government has also accorded an administrative sanction of ₹40 lakh for the development of basic amenities at the site. The heritage department will complete the conservation works within two months, while facilities such as information boards and basic amenities will also be developed to improve the visitor experience. After conservation works, an inauguration programme has been proposed for July 25.

Heritage department director Prof. K. Arjun Rao said the state government remains committed to protecting, conserving and promoting the state's rich cultural heritage and looks forward to strengthening cultural cooperation with France through the Raymond’s tomb conservation project.

The French delegation comprised Pascal Loreau, deputy consul, Bureau de France, Hyderabad, Rohini Reddipalli, assistant to the consul, Maud Miquau, director, Alliance Française de Hyderabad. Ranjeet Nayak, director, tourism department, Dr P. Nagaraju, deputy director, heritage department and other officials also participated.
