Telangana: MGM Gets Modern ATF Centre To Help Youth Overcome Addiction
20-bed facility offers medical treatment, counselling and rehabilitation support: Reports
WARANGAL: A modernised Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) centre has been opened at MGM Hospital in Warangal to provide medical treatment, counselling and rehabilitation services to people addicted to alcohol, tobacco, ganja and other narcotic substances.
The facility has been strengthened with the support of the Eagle Force as part of efforts to help people overcome addiction.
The initiative comes amid intensified efforts by Warangal police to curb the illegal transportation, storage and sale of drugs. While action is being taken against drug peddlers, police are also focusing on rehabilitation of people affected by addiction.
The ATF centre was established at MGM Hospital under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in accordance with GO-Ms-4 on February 10. On the initiative of Warangal police commissioner Swetha, and with the cooperation of MGM officials and staff, the facility has now been upgraded with modern amenities.
The dedicated ATF ward has been expanded from 10 to 20 beds. Iron grills and CCTV surveillance have been installed for patient safety, while a clean and secure environment has been provided. Carrom and chess facilities have also been arranged for patients during treatment.
“Treating young people suffering from addiction is not only about preventing crime. They need timely medical care, counselling and support to return to a healthy and responsible life. Parents should not hide the problem when they notice signs of addiction in their children, but seek help immediately,” Swetha said.
MGM Superintendent Dr Ram Reddy said the centre would provide comprehensive care under the supervision of experienced doctors.
“Along with medical treatment, patients will receive counselling and de-addiction services. Increasing the capacity to 20 beds will enable us to provide treatment to more people. We have also created a safe and hygienic environment with recreational facilities such as carrom and chess,” he said.
Police appealed to families to seek professional help for addiction-related problems. Those requiring de-addiction treatment can approach the ATF centre at MGM Hospital or contact the nearest police station or the hospital's psychiatry staff.
