BRS Demands Removal Of Lands From 22A List
The BRS staged a dharna in Karimnagar, demanding removal of around 6,000 acres from the 22A prohibited list to enable landowners to sell their properties.
The BRS on Thursday staged a dharna at Rekurthy Chowk here, demanding that the government remove lands from the 22A prohibited list in Karimnagar.
The protest was part of the party’s week-long statewide agitation. BRS activists, farmers and landowners who claimed to be affected by the inclusion of their lands in the list participated in the protest.
The protesters said around 6,000 acres in Rekurthy, Sitarampur, Kothapally and Chinthakunta had been included in the 22A list.
Participating in the dharna, local MLA Gangula Kamalakar said the 22A Act was formulated in 1908 and claimed that people had not faced problems with it for the last 115 years. He alleged that the problems began after the Congress came to power in the state.
He said people whose lands were on the prohibited list were unable to sell them and were facing difficulties in raising money for the marriage and education of their children.
Kamalakar demanded immediate removal of the lands from the list and said he would raise the issue in the Assembly.
