Telangana Govt Committed to Fulfilling Homeownership Dreams of Urban Poor: Ponguleti

Revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy reassured people that the government was committed to fulfilling the home-ownership dreams of urban poor families in Hyderabad despite soaring land prices.

The minister addressed the public and the media during the Prajalatho Mukhamukhi (face-to-face) interaction programme held at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday. He said the Congress government will construct 100,000 low-income group flats across multistorey buildings (up to 10 floors each) within the core urban region economy limits of Hyderabad.

During the face-to-face public grievance session at the party headquarters, the minister personally received hundreds of petitions regarding land reforms, pensions and housing eligibility. He emphasised that the administration is committed to fast-tracking verified claims and ensuring that eligible low-income families are allocated their units transparently.

The minister stated that previous housing applications will not be considered. All eligible urban beneficiaries must submit fresh applications through Mee Seva centres. The scheme is being rolled out as a pilot project across 16 Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad.

Unlike past initiatives that pushed low-income housing to the city outskirts, the government has acquired prime land parcels (ranging from 1 to 5 acres) directly within the city limits. This keeps the urban poor within a 5 to 8-kilometer radius of their current residences and livelihoods.
