Cong Stages 'Chalo Raj Bhavan' Protest
The Telangana Congress also condemned the police lathi-charge on protesting students and reiterated its demand for Pradhan’s resignation.
Hyderabad:The Congress on Wednesday staged a ‘Chalo Raj Bhavan’ protest march in Hyderabad, with police detaining several senior party leaders to prevent the rally from proceeding towards Raj Bhavan.
Senior Congress leaders, including ministers, marched from the Indiramma statue at Necklace Road towards Raj Bhavan along with party workers. The protest was organised against the detention of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi during a sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi on July 21. The party also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy.
Police erected barricades near Lok Bhavan and stopped the march before it could reach Raj Bhavan. Several Ministers, MLAs and Congress leaders were detained and shifted to police stations, including Nampally and Punjagutta.
The Telangana Congress also condemned the police lathi-charge on protesting students and reiterated its demand for Pradhan’s resignation.
Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Damodar Raja Narasimha and Mohammed Azharuddin, along with MLA Danam Nagender, participated in the protest. Telangana Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Shabbir Ali and several party workers were also detained after staging a brief sit-in outside Lok Bhavan.
