Inugurthi sub-inspector P. Naresh inspecting the site where excavation had been carried out in search of hidden treasure on Thursday night: Reports

MAHABUBABAD: A suspected treasure hunt led to a sensation at Ayyagaripalli village in Inugurthi mandal of Mahabubabad district on Friday after residents found a portion of an agricultural field on the outskirts of the village dug up.

Presence of puja material at the spot led villagers to suspect that rituals had been performed before the digging.

Inugurthi sub-inspector P. Naresh visited the spot after being alerted and inspected the area. He said the matter has been brought to the notice of senior officials.

Rumours spread in the village that a huge quantity of treasure had been recovered during the digging. Police have, however, not confirmed any such thing.

Locals said similar diggings for buried treasure have been reported on the outskirts of Ayyagaripalli on several occasions in the past. The latest incident has renewed curiosity among villagers about the possibility of the treasure still remaining buried.
