Singareni Staff Asked To Ramp Up Coal Production To 1.9 Lakh Tonnes Daily To Meet Power Demand
SCCL has directed its coal-producing areas to raise daily production and dispatch to 1.9 lakh tonnes amid rising power demand nationwide.
The management of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has directed all its areas to increase daily coal production and dispatch 1.9 lakh tonnes to meet the rising power demand in the state and all over the country. With rains receding, the coal producing blocks have been urged to exceed daily production and rail dispatch targets, while maintaining safety standards.
SCCL chairman and managing director Dr Budhaprakash Jyoti issued the orders during a special review meeting on coal production held at Singareni Bhavan here on Friday with directors and general managers of all areas.
Dr Jyoti said power consumption has increased significantly nationwide. In this backdrop, the Prime Minister's Office, union coal ministry, and state energy department are conducting reviews and setting targets to ensure adequate coal supply to thermal power plants. As a government coal producer, Singareni has the responsibility to contribute to national energy security, he said.
Officials informed that SCCL has dispatched 2.53 crore tonnes of coal in the first five months of this financial year ending August 31, with over 90% supplied to thermal power plants.
Dr Jyoti also reviewed overburden removal, noting that 1,315 lakh cubic metres were removed through off-loading by the end of August, achieving 95% of the target. He instructed agencies to exceed 100% removal.
