Telangana: Engineer’s Assets Probe Exposes Benami Firms
Companies named Mutyam Constructions and Mutyam Builders and Developers were registered with his wife Swapna, father Venkanna, uncle Shivarambabu and son Nikhil as directors: Reports
HYDERABAD: Further investigation by the Anti‑Corruption Bureau (ACB) into disproportionate assets owned by Muthyam Venkata Ramana, divisional engineer, REDCO, has revealed sensational facts. Officials said this is the largest disproportionate assets case in the bureau’s history.
The probe has shown that while serving in government, Ramana simultaneously ran real estate businesses since 2006. He invested ill‑gotten gains in the sector and appointed family members and relatives as benami directors, ACB sources disclosed.
Companies named Mutyam Constructions and Mutyam Builders and Developers were registered with his wife Swapna, father Venkanna, uncle Shivarambabu and son Nikhil as directors. In Pride Homes, registered the same year, his wife Swapna and G. Ravikumar were listed as directors. His wife and father also registered Mutyam and ASNR Life Spaces Private Limited.
Through these firms, Ramana procured 10 residential apartments and two commercial complexes in Moosapet, Kukatpally.
On July 23, the ACB conducted searches at his residence and seven other locations, allegedly uncovering disproportionate assets worth Rs 27.65 crore by document value, with market value estimated at over Rs 300 crore. Ramana was earlier trapped in 2019 while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
According to ACB, the assets include flats in Serilingampally and Kukatpally valued at Rs 1.23 crore, a G+3 commercial building at Anjaneya Nagar in Kukatpally worth Rs 1.82 crore, and a G+5 commercial building at Guttala Begumpet in Serilingampally valued at Rs 2.90 crore. Further details of his disproportionate assets are yet to be disclosed, and the case remains under investigation.
