Telangana: Asad Demands Extension Of Deadline For SIR In Telangana
The current timeline did not give citizens enough time to verify their entries and respond to notices from the Election Commission of India: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi
HYDERABAD: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday demanded an extension of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, saying the time given till October 17 for the final voter list was insufficient for voters to address discrepancies
Speaking an event after the inauguration of the Chanchalguda–Santoshnagar flyover by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Owaisi stated that the current timeline did not give citizens enough time to verify their entries and respond to notices from the Election Commission of India.
While pushing for an extension of the date, Owaisi also urged citizens to be proactive, carry their Aadhaar cards to designated verification centres and respond to notices issued by electoral registration officers (EROs) to ensure their names remained on the final voter list.
During his visit to the Yakutpura constituency to inspect the functioning of the centres to hear voter woes with Yakutpura MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj on Wednesday, Owaisi asked the people to check the draft electorals roll and respond to notices if their names appeared under anomalies list, and immediately submit Form 6 for inclusion as new voters if they were marked as ‘Absent’ or ‘Shifted’. Owaisi said the AIMIM was committed to ensuring that every genuine voter's name is included in the final electoral roll and appealed to party workers to continue guiding and assisting the public.
