Hyderabad: Kushaiguda police arrested a 25-year-old software professional in connection with a road accident in which seven workers of a bar and restaurant were injured near ECIL early on Tuesday.

The accused was arrested on Thursday after allegedly hitting the group while they were walking home after completing their work at Trishul Bar and Restaurant under Kushaiguda police station limits.

According to the police, the complainant, Vikram Kumar, 25, a waiter at the restaurant, was returning home along with co-workers — Ajay Kumar, Bipin Kumar Yadav, Rajesh Yadav, Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Ranjan Yadav, Biwash Kumar and Kapender Yadav — around 12.30 am when the car approached them from behind at high speed and hit them near New Chaitanya College, opposite Devi Mobile Shop.

The impact left several workers injured. Ajay, Bipin and Rajesh suffered serious injuries and were admitted to hospital, while the others sustained bleeding injuries. The injured were initially shifted to a nearby hospital and were later moved to another hospital in ECIL. The driver did not stop after the accident and fled the spot. During the investigation, police traced and arrested the accused, who is a techie.

As part of the investigation, police conducted a drunk-driving test on the accused. He reportedly tested negative for alcohol. However, police collected his sample and sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further examination.
