NALGONDA: Minister for panchayat raj and rural development D. Anasuya Seethakka on Wednesday said development of women was the foundation for the state’s progress.

Along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, she inaugurated a 1 MW solar power plant set up by Chaitanya Self Help Group at Venkatapuram in Errupalem mandal of Khammam district, built at a cost of ₹2.84 crore.

She said the project, set up by an SHG, was the first of its kind in the country and would serve as an inspiration for women. She noted that the state government had increased interest-free loan limits for SHG women to ₹10 lakh from ₹5 lakh and encouraged them to establish petrol bunks, solar plants, Indiramma canteens and turmeric units for economic empowerment. She added that Indiramma saris would soon be distributed.

Vikramarka said that, under a pilot project, solar power would be supplied to all villages in Bonakal mandal. He announced that bank linkage loans totalling ₹1 lakh crore would be extended to SHGs during the tenure of the Congress government, and said ₹66,000 crore in interest-free loans had already been extended in the first two years.

He said that despite an increase in power demand to 18,480 MW from 15,000 MW, supply was being maintained for domestic and industrial needs without power cuts.

He also asked farmers not to burn paddy stubble, citing risks of fire accidents, pollution and soil damage, and warned that action would be taken against violations as per law.

Managing director of Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd, Anila Vavilla, said the Chaitanya SHG would earn about ₹4.5 lakh per month from the solar power plant.
