Nalgonda: A priest collapsed and died while performing puja at a Ganesh pandal at Chintalapalem in Tirumalagiri Sagar mandal on Monday night following an alleged quarrel with two youths.

The deceased was identified as Uppala Dattu Prasad, 60, a purohit from Nagarjunasagar.

According to police, Dattu Prasad had come to the village to perform puja at Ganesh pandals when Gundala Ravi and Punnaiah, residents of the village, allegedly picked a quarrel with him. They demanded that he first perform puja at the pandal in their colony before attending other Ganesh pandals in the village.

Police said the two youths allegedly took the priest to the Ganesh pandal near Ramalayam in their colony. While performing puja there, Dattu Prasad suddenly collapsed.

Villagers rushed him to Kamala Nehru Government Hospital at Nagarjunasagar, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Based on a complaint from Dattu Prasad, Tirumalagiri Sagar police registered a case against the two youths and launched an investigation.
