Centralised Kitchen To Prepare Breakfast for Karimnagar District Students Opens Today
Centralised facility to serve nutritious meals to 680 government institutions across 17 mandals
Karimnagar: BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will inaugurate a centralised community kitchen established at the Agriculture Market Yard in Karimnagar on Wednesday in the presence of Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation president Satya Gaura Chanda Dasa Swami.
The state government has built the kitchen at a cost of Rs 8 crore in association with the Hare Krishna Foundation, the implementing partner for the School Breakfast programme of the Telangana government.
The kitchen will supply breakfast to 49,025 students studying in 669 government schools and 11 junior colleges in 17 mandals covering the Karimnagar, Husnabad, Choppadandi, and Manakondur Assembly constituencies.
The Hyderabad-based National Institute for Nutrition (NIN) has designed the breakfast to be served for students.
The state government’s School Breakfast programme had initially been implemented on a pilot basis in Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency in December 2024. It has since been expanded to Madhira, Warangal, Manthani, and Mancherial assembly segments.
The centralised kitchen in Karimnagar is equipped with modern machinery to prepare breakfast for a large number of students. According to Hare Krishna Foundation staff, the facility can prepare about 15,000 idlis and 3,000 each of puris and dosas per hour.
Two large vessels, each with a capacity of 1,200 litres, have been installed to prepare sambar, while two other vessels, each with a capacity of 500 kg, are used to prepare curry. A milk boiler, vegetable cleaner, and vegetable cutters have also been installed. There is a laboratory that tests the quality of breakfast. About 100 workers are engaged in preparation of the breakfast.
Hare Krishna Foundation staff said headmasters have to send the strength of their respective schools a day in advance, so that breakfast can be prepared and supplied to the schools by 7:30 a.m.
The Karimnagar centralised community kitchen is among the kitchens that are being established in each of the 31 districts of Telangana at a cost of Rs 245 crore.
The breakfast menu includes idli-sambar on Monday, puri-aloo kurma on Tuesday, dosa-chutney on Wednesday, upma-chutney on Thursday, millet idli-sambar on Friday and bonda-chutney on Saturday.
