Nekkonda Man Climbs Railway Electric Pole, Disrupts Train Services
A man climbed an overhead railway electric pole near Nekkonda, prompting a two-hour rescue operation and disrupting train movement on the Warangal–Vijayawada route.
A man, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, climbed an overhead railway electric pole near Nekkonda in Warangal district on Wednesday and threatened to die by suicide over his wife’s refusal to return home.
The episode continued for nearly two hours before railway staff and police brought him down safely. Authorities shifted him to MGM Hospital in Warangal on Thursday morning for medical and psychological assessment and treatment, sources said.
According to police and railway sources, Sultan Javed, a native of Karimnagar district, works as a daily-wage labourer. His wife had reportedly been living separately from him for the past four years.
Javed allegedly travelled from Warangal to Nekonda aboard the Golconda Express on Wednesday while under the influence of alcohol. He then climbed an overhead electric pole near the FCI godowns close to Nekonda railway station. He demanded that his wife be contacted and persuaded to return home, threatening to end his life if his demand is not met.
Railway staff immediately disconnected power supply and alerted police. Local police, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, and railway officials rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Many local residents gathered there, disrupting the movement of some trains on the Warangal-Vijayawada railway route.
Authorities finally managed to convince Javed and brought him down safely, before taking him into custody. Police kept him under supervision overnight and shifted him to MGM Hospital for treatment on Thursday morning.
